Rheinmetall demonstrates low-cost urban tank round

Article Abstract:

Rheinmetall WandM has made an international demonstration of its new multipurpose Penetrator with Enhanced Lateral Effect (PELE) ammunition, which is developing for use with 105mm rifled and 120mm smoothbore tank guns. It was found that in urban operations the standard long-rod penetrators fitted in APFSDS (armor-piercing finstabalized discarding sabot) kinetic energy projectiles have an unpredictable performance.
