Russia violates bio-chem treaties

Article Abstract:

Russia continues to violate the Biological Weapons Convention treaty of 1972 by maintaining certain elements of its biological weapons programme. Russia has been found to be in possession of stock-piles of high-tech poison gas weapons when inspected by probers working for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Russia's continued violation of weapons proliferation treaties are putting other nations in jeopardy as the financially-troubled country makes an effort to increase its arms output and boost the exportation of weapons.

Russia finally faces up to its CW legacy

Article Abstract:

Russia's economic woes and bureacratic chaos are hampering efforts to begin dismantling the country's stockpile of chemical weapons. The country, a signatory to the Chemical Weapons Convention, owns the world's biggest chemical stockpile. Destroying this stockpile will cost Russia an estimated $6 billion over the next 10 to 15 years. A single destruction facility, however, has yet to be built.
