Security and stability in the Middle East - the Al-Khobar factor

Article Abstract:

The bombing of the Khobar Towers housing complex in Saudi Arabia, which was occupied by US Air Force personnel, has set off an intensive investigation. It was initially thought that Iran was involved, but Saudi officials have said that no foreign powers were involved.

Islamist groups target Arab security services

Article Abstract:

The Arab security services in Saudi Arabia and Jordan have become the major targets for Islamist terrorist groups. The intelligence services in Arab states have increased their levels of information sharing and co-operation with foreign agencies, both in response to the heightened threat from Islamist groups to their own regimes and in support of United States counterterrorism campaigns.

Al-Qaeda ignores Saudi amnesty

Article Abstract:

Al-Qaeda militants have ignored the month-long amnesty announced by the Saudi Arabia government, which suggests more bloodshed and violence in the kingdom. Al-Qaeda has rejected amnesty, under which those who surrendered would not be indicted for crimes carrying the death penalty, and only six activists surrendered when the amnesty expired on 23 July 2004.
