Shipbuilding challenges with particular attention to small series production

Article Abstract:

Dipl.-Ing. Heinrich Schutz, formerly associated with shipbuilding projects for the German Navy discusses some of the challenges faced in shipbuilding, especially small series production, and offers solutions for the same. Mutual trust between contractors and customers, integration of key components and spiral development, allowing design modularity in small series production are suitable solutions to take advantage of technological advances available throughout development and construction.
