Interceptor body armor

Article Abstract:

The US Army Europe (USAREUR) has taken delivery of the latest tactical ballistic body armor protection system. The interceptor system is composed of two major components: the outer tactical vest (OTV) and the small arms protection insert (SAPI). The OTV is a soft vest made of KM2 Kevlar and also includes removable throat and groin protection. Each vest can also be equipped with SAPI boron carbide ceramic plates for further protection.

The future combat systems (FCS) of the US Army, the systems of systems that will support the service's objective force concept for the second decade of the 21st century,is under the administration of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The task of DARPA, which is aided by US Army command, is to create a lighter fighting force that will be very lethal and very survivable and is able to do the entire function of an army while maintaining high mobility.

The Mk 47 Mod 0 Striker 40mm, is the recent addition to the U.S. Army's tactical weapon system's inventory that is deployed with US Army special operations elements in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Striker 40 mm grenade machine gun offers warfighters a number of significant advantages over the older Mk 19 Mod 3 series 40 mm grenade machine gun.
