Tactical Internet moves out: Smaller gear gives dismounted troops greater awareness

Article Abstract:

The Army plans to issue the Dismounted Battle Command System (DBCS), a portable computer the size of a car stereo and a wireless voice/data radio system designed to make the tactical Internet accessible down to the team-leader level. The move is part of an effort to bring foot soldiers into the Force XXI Battle Command, Brigade and Below (FBCB2) network, making them as technologically advanced as their vehicle-mounted colleagues.
