The Chinese sharpen their options; Beijing's sights are on Taiwan, but it keeps a wary eye on the United States

China has the obvious and ongoing goal of forcing Taiwan to 'reunify.' However, the United States has pledged its support of Taiwan. China, therefore, is undergoing a modernization of its military capabilities, especially the building of missiles.

The U.S. Navy needs more submarines because though spying assignments increased last year, its fleet of nuclear-powered fast attack boats is only half as large of it was during the Cold War.
