The GDP argument

Article Abstract:

The review focuses on the 2008 budget of America, which states that the government needs to spend more money to build up their defense, as defense spending should be a high percentage of the GDP of the increasing economy of the country. The analysts show that though the need for a rise in the defense spending persists, it should not just depend on the country's economic growth and should be taken care of by cutting down on the various social and medical benefits of the country.

United in relief

Article Abstract:

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice's offer to negotiate with Iran sent a sense of relief over Capitol Hill. Even Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore, who had earlier written a letter to the White House challenging administration's interpretation that the Constitution's commander-in-chief clause gives the president authority to send military forces into action without congressional approval, was pleased with the decision.

Homeland insecurity

Article Abstract:

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was created three years ago in 2003 as part of the overhaul of the U.S. government, along with Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to prevent, and if necessary, respond to terrorist attacks. Both the DHS and DNI have been criticized for their inadequate port security and accused of failing to secure the nation's borders.
