Article Abstract:

A new Internet-like, global intelligence-sharing network called the Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) would foster the rapid sharing of intelligence by all the US military services. The Navy is scheduled to conduct operational testing of DCGS-N system in June 2007 and then plans to field the system throughout the fleet.

The end of a US Army aircraft development contract has put a stop to the Navy's plans to replace its aging land-based maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft. Some Navy experts would employ an unmanned aircraft to reduce the complexity and missions of the future aerial common sensor aircraft.

Unmanned vehicles move in high-risk areas, providing timely knowledge of the battlespace. Guided-missile subs deploy larger unmanned vehicles for reconnaissance and mine-counter measures missions.
