The Longbow Apache reports for duty

Article Abstract:

The Army has deployed the AH-64D Longbow Apache attack helicopter, and the first aviation battalion certified to fly it in combat will be deployed in October 1998. The 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation (1/227 Aviation) of the 1st Cavalry Division is presently undergoing training at Fort Hood, TX. The AH-64D Longbow Apache will operate alone within a particular area, but when it spots a target, it will summon other Apaches to overwhelm the target. There are at present two variants of the Longbow Apache: those with fire control radar (FCR) and those without. The 1/227 Aviation will have nine Apache Longbows with FCR and 15 without FCR.

More stories, other heroes

Article Abstract:

The United States soldiers who are bravely fighting in Iraq and those soldiers who lost their lives fighting in Iraq are honored. Some of the soldiers have had a miraculous escape while fighting the insurgents and are not afraid of the firing and bombing incidents caused by the insurgents as they have become very common and are being considered as a part of their daily routine.
