The U.S. Navy Expeditionary Combat Command: A new focus on green and brown water missions

Article Abstract:

The US Navy Expeditionary Combat Command is a single command that would integrate, with the creation of riverine warfare units, all warfighting requirements for expeditionary combat and combat-support elements, thus resulting in a more balanced naval force. It is aimed to expand the traditional focus of the Navy on deep sea blue water missions to green and brown waters, meaning shallow waters and riverine systems connected to the oceans by rivers, tributaries, harbors and rugged shorelines, and extend the maritime domain into an inland battle space.
