The loss of fires for the GCE.

Article Abstract:

The economic move to integrate 10 Marine Hornet squadrons into the Navy carrier air wings (CVWs) has been analyzed in order to gauge the effects of this move on the capability of the Marine tactical aviation (TacAir) units to support the Marine on the ground. The integration plan that also requires a Navy captain to command a Marine aircraft group (MAG) while a Marine colonel commands a CVW raises the issue of the capability of Navy strike pilots in handling the ground combat element (GCE).

In order to meet the future demands for fighting war on terrorism, the Marine Corps should look past the old paradigms of employment of these assets and realign its acquisitions, organizations and deployment ratios.
