The lost battalion: Courts-martial for minor offenses is a strain on precious resources

Article Abstract:

Court-martial proceedings against Marines for minor offenses is not advisable, since the sentenced Marine might be effectively removed from his command, but would be transferred to a centralized command to be part of an almost forgotten "lost battalion". This is a strain on resources for the upkeep of such Marines who earn all benefits without performing any duty, and as such, it is a better option to make an undisciplined Marine a civilian, if a firm, fair leadership cannot correct him.
