Transformation: a bridge too far?

Article Abstract:

The unforeseen high fiscal costs of war in Iraq and Afghanistan and the federal budget deficits have forced significant cuts in defence plans. The Surface Navy Association symposium acknowledged that the navy is not correctly balanced and optimized for the world of the future and will undergo transformation which includes 50-100 Littoral Combat Ships and an offboard to dominate the battlespace.

AEGIS adds capability to the Spanish Navy

Article Abstract:

Juan Rodrigeuz, the commanding officer of the SPS Alvaro de Bazan (F-101) views the innovative capabilities of the new ship, which is accepted by the Spanish Navy on 19 September 2002. According to him, the new ships are the Spanish Navy's answer to the need for an enhanced power projection capability and an ability to operate in littoral waters.
