Article Abstract:

The continued stand taken by the US government under President Bush that the key to future US military power is the employment of advanced technologies is considered to be most beneficial to the US Air Force. The new plan costs around 402 billion dollars defense budget for 2005 of which 121 billion dollars is allocated to the Air Force and emphasizes systems that offer stealth, precision, range and provides for new military space systems.

Washington watch: McCain and the F/A-22 raptor

Article Abstract:

Sen. John McCain was the chief opponent to the Air Force's attempt to acquire new aerial refueling aircraft but now he is aiming at USAF's top priority F/A-22 fighter. Further he feels that the idea of this plane must be cancelled as its cost between 250 million dollars and 300 million dollars including money spent on research, development, and tooling.

Washington watch: Rumsfeld's "open mind" on troops

Secretary of Defense, Donald H. Rumsfeld, has consistently resisted calls to raise troop levels despite major operations in multiple theaters. Rumsfeld is facing mounting pressure to increase the number of airmen, soldiers, sailors, and Marines in the US military.
