The silent service gets vocal

Article Abstract:

The US Navy submarine force is expected to benefit tremendously from emerging network-centric systems of communications. Network-centric warfare (NCW), which relies on the speed of command, is emerging as the byword of naval operational capability. NCW, which is expected to streamline the engagement hierarchy, will place the decision-makers in the same level as the so-called 'shooters' operating the submarines.

Tomahawk tackles Y2K target

Article Abstract:

The US Navy has completed the last of the tests intended to see if the Tomahawk land attack cruise missile (TLAM) is free from the millennium bug. The test, which was conducted May 11, 1999, was successfully passed by TLAM. The missile was successfully fired from a fleet submarine even as the clocks in all launch systems were all advanced to Feb 29, 2000. The test was conducted amidst a growing demand for the missile system, which was the preferred weapon by the US and the UK Royal Navy during Operation 'Allied Force.'
