UAE unveils clandestine LRSC

Article Abstract:

Emirates Marine Technologies, a new firm headquartered in Abu Dhabi, displayed two types of mini-submarine at IDEX 2001. The different models, namely Classes 4 and 5 Long-Range Submersible Carrier, are fitted with onboard computers, sonars with a range of 150 m, echo depth sounders, GPS and navigation aids. Both carry a crew of two divers, can cruise at 6 kt to a maximum range of 60 nm and operate down to 50 m. Currently, one version is in service with the United Arab Emirates special forces, and two countries in the Middel East are reported to have signed contracts for an undetermined number of systems.
