UK announces European choices

Article Abstract:

Two procurement choices announced by the UK Ministry of Defense in May 2000 could be taken by US defense and aerospace companies as a signal that Europe may no longer be a viable market for US products. The selection of the METEOR for the Royal Air Force's beyond visual range air-to-air missile requirement prevailed despite strong opposition as to its costs, compared to Raytheon Co's proposal. An even more controversial decision was the commitment to purchase 25 Airbus Military Aircraft A-400M to replace 26 Lockheed Martin C-130K Hercules transport aircraft.
