UK services to establish joint Harrier command

Article Abstract:

The UK Ministry of Defence has released details of its Joint Force 2000 (JF 2000) command. The JF 2000 is a strike force composed of Harrier aircraft from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force and are both land and carrier based. Initially, the Harrier forces at RAF Wittering and Laarbruch in Germany will be relocated to RAF Cottesmore. Squadrons from RNAS Yeovilton will also be relocated to Cottesmore. The co-location of the joint forces is expected to increase joint training activities and enhance operational capability.

Royal Thai Navy upgrades new carrier combat system

Article Abstract:

The Royal Thai Navy is equipping its aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet with three Sadral sextuple launchers for Mistral short-range surface-to-air missiles. France's Matra BAe Dynamics will deliver the launchers by the end of 1998, while Spain's FABA will integrate the weapons system into the carrier's AN/UYK-43C Lowboy computer-based combat system. The weapon system will undergo trial early in 1999.
