US DoD inspects the market for 'sea-based terminal missile' options

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) is inspecting the domestic defense market for a sea-based missile capable of shooting down incoming ballistic warheads in the final moments of flight. The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in March 2007 asked contractors to submit ideas for a "sea-based terminal missile" for Aegis-class warships, ranging from an existing missile or its modification to a newly designed missile.

Spiraling ahead: With the loss of its greatest champion, what's to become of transformation?

Article Abstract:

Retired Vice Adm. Arthur K. Cebrowski who died in November 2006 argued that information technology challenged many of the precepts of traditional American military thinking and suggested transformation to measure military power in the future. He further suggested that spiral development was essential factor for flexibility in the information and technology.
