US Navy organization and missions: Today's Navy: "On-scene, on-call, and on-demand"

Article Abstract:

The US Navy's mission, to maintain, train, and equip combat-ready naval forces capable of winning wars, has not changed for 2004 and it has taken a new look at how it prepares the national fleet to meet the requirements for increased effectiveness, capability and greater flexibility. The US Navy of the new century is evolving to meet the challenges of the era after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and its key role is to mature the concept of using the sea base as the foundation for joint organization operations.

2000 Almanac issue

Article Abstract:

The 2000 Almanac issue of Sea Power, published in Jan 2000, offers a listing of the assets of the US Navy. The listing includes the service's aircraft carriers, submarines, surface ships, aircraft, helicopters and weapons. It also includes sections on the US Marine Corps and the Coast Guards' weapons, vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, ships. The almac also features a listing of the US Navy's flag officers.

Article Abstract:

The United States Navy is systematically and strategically organizing its force structure based on the lesson learned from the operation in Iraq and the global war on terrorism. Fleet Response Plan is one of new revisions introduced by Admiral Vern Clarke, Chief of the Naval Operations for planning and organizing the fleet for proper deployment.
