US defence spending and more modernization; the wheel keeps turning

Article Abstract:

The Democratic Party could include defense spending cutbacks as a main theme for replacing a Republican White House, especially if there is little success in Iraq and Afghanistan and more so if the Bush Administration fails to slim down the US budget and trade deficits. The 2006 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) model should aim at getting the near-term problems handled soonest and then move on with proper and sufficient latitude in all necessary and affordable directions.
