Losing ground: The future of central government in Iraq

Article Abstract:

Country risk modeling is used to examine various factors linked to Nouri al-Maliki's government that are likely to affect Iraq's risk environment in 2007, as well as Iraq's current risk environment. It is concluded that the Iraqi Prime Minister might achieve only a fraction of his reconciliation and security milestones in 2007 because the country will be more violent due to sectarian and factional fighting as local power arrangements will find a natural balance.
