USAF Predators come to age in Iraq and Afghanistan as Reaper waits in the wings

Article Abstract:

The General Atomics-Aeronautical Systems Inc (GA-ASI) Predator is the first unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to be adopted on a large scale by the US Air Force (USAF), as its offensive and surveillance operations are firmly established. The USAF Predator force is being expanded quickly to meet operational needs, with the USAF having already taken delivery of more than 150 MQ-1 Predators, and planning to enhance the force by acquireing24 aircraft in Fiscal Year 2008 (FY08) and 43, 49 and 42 aircraft in the three subsequent years.

Re-inventing the jet: New engine demonstrators win US support

Article Abstract:

The US Air Force (USAF) is preparing to unveil the most important and wide-ranging demonstration of the turbine engine technology since the 1980s. The demonstrator project called Project Advent (ADaptive Versatile Engine Technology) is aimed at building a demonstrator engine that uses variable-cycle technology to ensure improved performance and an adaptive capability to meet the requirements of different platforms and different missions.

Contenders square up for rescue helicopter

Article Abstract:

Four teams have lined up with their new combat search-and-rescue (C-SAR-X) vehicle for the US Air Force (USAF). The requirement for the new C-SAR-X changed dramatically since early 2005 and the USAF is expected to select a C-SAR-X contractor in early 2006, with initial operational capability due in early 2011.
