USAF grapples with F-22 costs

Article Abstract:

The F-22 Raptor fighter aircraft program has been hit by cost overruns amounting to almost $1 billion. The cost increases are reflected in the $312-million budget increase being sought by the US Air Force in a preliminary report submitted to the General Accounting Office. Air Force officials hastened to add, however, that they remain confident of completing the Raptor program without going over the cost ceiling mandated by the US Congress.

The China problem

Article Abstract:

The US Congress is looking into the suspected theft of US nuclear secrets by the People's Republic of China. In recent years, the US has received valuable information to confirm such thefts, which are said to be aimed at bringing China at the forefront of nations. The acquisition of secret nuclear data could enable China to develop advanced weaponry and warfare vehicles.
