Unleashing the MACG Det: here is a proposal to relocate the Marine air control group detachment within the Marine expeditionary unit

Article Abstract:

The Marine air control group detachment should be part of the Marine expeditionary unit instead of the aviation combat element. Such a change will allow better training of personnel and greater understanding of personnel capabilities.

The Tower of Babel: joint close air support performance at the operational level

Article Abstract:

Observation of joint air support missions among US Marine, Air Force, and Naval forces in Afghanistan shows how operational architecture and tactical procedure must be developed jointly. Joint procedures offer the greatest likelihood for mission success, especially during the first three days.
