VT's diversification is paying off

Article Abstract:

Vosper Thornycroft Ltd., a shipbuilding company from the United Kingdom, benefits from its initiative to diversify into support services for ships. Vosper Thornycroft opted to diversify its operations as a result of greater market competition and a decline in the number of contracts for manufacturing ships. The company's new contracts, such as a multi-million deal to service the ships of a garrison of the British Army, helped improve the yearly sales of its ship-support-services venture to 100 million pounds sterling.

Article Abstract:

Aerospatiale-Matra has informed customers who bought its MM 38 Exocet anti-ship missiles that they have to find funds for upgrading their missiles by end of 2000 or else seek replacement missiles. About 19 navies have purchased more that 1,200 MM 38s, which entered service in 1972 and have a guaranteed minimum shelf life of 10 years. Upgrading the MM 38s is a cost-effective alternative to buying new missiles.
