WWI prototypes marked origin of littoral combat ship

Article Abstract:

The Littoral Combat Ship is a radical new multimission ship originated to meet the requirements during World War I. The US Navy is developing this multimission ship to meet its requirement for a craft that could travel at high speed, have a minimal draft to operate within the littoral, evade minefields, and deliver fire to destroy enemy targets.

Merchant Marine academy rose from flames of tragedy at sea

Article Abstract:

Efforts made to develop the United States Merchant Marine Academy by the Maritime Commission are presented. The incompetence and lack of training on the part of the Captain crew led to the Merchant Marine Act of 1936 that established a Maritime Commission with a mandate to reform and expand officer training.
