Bombers in the spotlight; Rumsfeld and the Reserves; the Boeing case..

Article Abstract:

The Air Force will reconsider an earlier-scrapped plan to install new engines in old B-52 bombers, as the cost savings may have been underestimated. The House Armed Services Committee is considering legislation that would bring some retired B-1B bombers back into service. Defense Secretary Rumsfeld seeks to reduce mobilizations of reservist troops. The Air Force has banned three Boeing divisions from working with the government after stolen Lockheed Martin documents were discovered. An Air Force report questions the effectiveness of the Airborne Laser against ICBMs. Former Defense Secretary Perry believes a conflict with North Korea could be only months away.
