Different, except in a different way: marriage, divorce, and gender in the Hollywood comedy of remarriage

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern the relationship between American social life and values and the portrayal of marriage and gender in early Hollywood romantic comedies. Topics addressed include family and marriage throughout history, depictions of masculinity and femininity during the Depression, and the contradictory discourses of femininity in several films from the era.
