Governing images: The politics of film and video distribution in late-apartheid and postapartheid South Africa

Article Abstract:

South Africa faced strong resistance towards the regime in the form of strikes, mass rallies, and by political operations during 1980s and this kind of politicization of race and racism was common because of South Africa's colonial and apartheid history. The regulation of film and video distribution by the government in South Africa started influencing people's thinking about the whites and nonwhites.

Working together: multicultural media literacy and "The Community"

Article Abstract:

Media education is discussed as a pedagogical exercise for social change and argues that the revised models of multicultural education should be incorporated into the media literacy effort. A model is described for media pedagogy that would consider cultural difference and its inherent power differentials in the process of educating for educational change using reviews and critiques.

Humor as "cultural reconciliation" in South African situation comedy: 'Suburban Bliss' and multicultural female viewers

The South African situation comedy 'Suburban Bliss' attracted black viewers by portraying middle class white and black families. Avoiding poverty meant avoiding failure and the mistakes of apartheid.
