'92 Israeli Plan To Kill Hussein Is Reported

Article Abstract:

Israeli news reports have divulged a 1992 plan to assassinate Saddam Hussein. The military operation was cancelled after five Israeli soldiers died while training for the attack. The strategy was to kill Hussein at the funeral of his uncle, Khairallah Tilfah who raised him after his father died before he was born. Hussein had also married Tilfah's daughter, Sajida. Called Operation Bramble Brush, the Israeli soldier members of the elite military unit Sayeret Matkal would have landed near Tikrit where the funeral would have been held. The goal was to kill Hussein when he traveled to the funeral.
