Colin J. O. Harrison made great contribution in studying the fossils and determining the presence of various species in different habitats, the most important one being the identification of a bizarrely assembled group of British Pleistocene birds, which is still stored in the Natural History Museum of London. He studied the ecology of each species and showed how they could occur under the same topographical level with the altitude determining the variations.
