Impact of uncertainty, social support, and prenatal coping on the psychological well-being of high-risk pregnant women

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate whether prenatal coping strategies mediated the effects of uncertainty and social support on the psychological well-being of high-risk pregnant women among a sample group of 105 in the age group 18-34 years. These women reported low levels of uncertainty, moderate levels of distress, and high levels of social support, while prayer was the most frequently used prenatal coping strategy, and avoidance was used least often.

A study analyzes the patterns of threat appraisal, coping and emotions of pregnant women after perinatal loss, as such pregnancies are filled with anxiety and lead to stress and depression in women. The analysis clearly indicates that though the anxiety related to pregnancy subsides with time, threat appraisal, coping and other emotions remain stable during pregnancy.
