Article Abstract:

Ichard Lugar, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee came back from his recent trip to Iraq with some disturbing stories. The invasion and the ensuing outburst of looting in Iraq that destroyed vast troves of data needed to plan the reconstruction and revive the oil industry are described.

The growing conflict between the US and Iraq due to its uncertain policies towards Iran is discussed. The US is unsure about Iran's nuclear program and its impact and hence several analysts have urged the US to launch wide-ranging negotiations about the future of the whole region.
