Ads play well, but eToys still suffering

Article Abstract:

Internet retailers Pets.com and eToys have great advertising that catered to consumer's tastes and built a loyal fan base. However, brand building requires at minimum a sustainable idea, execution, and building long- lasting relationships with customers. Pets.com and its Sock Puppet shut down in the fall 2000 while eToys has fallen short on sales growth required to keep going long term. Observers blame overspending and the success of traditional retail brands shifting some of their business to the Web.
