Ameritech service gives e-mail by telephone

Article Abstract:

Ameritech Corp introduces a service to enable customers to read e-mails through the telephone and a standard voice mail procedure. This makes the company the pioneer among the five regional carriers to implement such a unified messaging scheme. The new service, which targets business users, is availed by dialingg a toll-free number and following several voice commands. In addition, customers can also reply to e-mail messages via phone lines.

Yahoo reports profit, says site visits soaring

Article Abstract:

Yahoo! Inc has posted its fifth consecutive profitable quarter as Web site traffic continues to increase. The gains followed the Internet service provider's acquisition of Internet community site GeoCities and media company Broadcast.com in stock deals worth $3.9 billion and $5.7 billion respectively. Yahoo's earnings surpassed Wall Street projections of 8 cents a share as it posted $25.1 mil, or 11 cents a share, without one-time charges.

Healtheon-WebMD near deal

Article Abstract:

Healtheon Corp and WebMD were speculated to have reached a merger agreement, which could promote the medical industry's position on the Internet. The two medical Web site companies did not confirm the signing of a deal, but a Healtheon board member stated that the deal was completed. The consolidation could result in considerable cost savings for insurance companies and hospitals as well as streamline the medical industry.
