Two mergers highlight e-commerce trends

In 2 stock deals, 4 business to business software integrators are merging. Vignette Corp., Austin, TX, is buying OnDisplay Inc., San Ramon, CA, for $1.7 bil. WebMethods Inc., of Fairfax, VA, will exchange $1.3 bil in shares for control of Active Software Inc., Santa Clara, CA . The companies are combining to better serve their customers' desire for one shop to handle systems integration both internally and externally. As more businesses handle transactions over the Internet, they seek a seamless handoff of data between their computers and the computers of their suppliers and customers.

Dragon Systems sputters after Belgian suitor fails
