B.C. offers major concession in softwood lumber dispute

A resolution in the trade dispute between the U.S. and Canada over softwood lumber pricing may be closer after British Columbia made some key concessions. The western Canadian province offered to tie lumber pricing to public auctions and lent its support for a bilateral commission that would oversee timber trade.

U.S. fees on softwood could hit 107%

Article Abstract:

The British Columbia Lumber Trade Council has said that proposed U.S. duties on Canadian softwood products would impose an import fee of up to 107 percent. U.S. lumber trade associations are lobbying the Bush administration to impose high anti-dumping fees to protect domestic producers.
