Barrington to drop Sunoma poison pill Friday morning

Article Abstract:

Barrington Petroleum Ltd. is expected to accept the hostile takeover bid worth C$222 million submitted by Sunoma Energy Corp. of Calgary, Alberta, rather than maintain its poison pill defense strategy. Barrington is not optimistic that a white knight will come forward with an alternative bid for its operations to prevent the takeover by Sunoma Energy. Still, Barrington chief executive officer Brian Gore noted that there is the possibility that the hostile takeover may be averted by the existence of another takeover player.

ARC raises bid for Starcp Energy to $74.2-million

Article Abstract:

ARC Energy Trust has raised its offer for oil and gas income trust Starcor Energy Royalty Fund of Calgary, Alberta, to C$8.01 a share or C$74.2 million, plus the assumption of Starcor's C$28-million debt. ARC said that it will pay 0.965 of its unit for every Starcor unit, plus 0.193 of an ARC exercible at higher prices. ARC's bid is 2% higher than rival PrimeWest Energy Trust's C$7.86 offer of per unit.
