Qwest stock dips on news of 13,000 layoffs

Qwest Communications has proclaimed it will lay off lamost 13,000 employees in order to increase capital and efficiency after its recent acquisition of US West. The stock dropped almost 4% due to this decision.

BellSouth lowers earnings expectations for next fiscal year

Article Abstract:

BellSouth Corp. has lowered expectations for its year 2001 earnings from 13-15% to seven-to-nine percent. The announcement underscored the problems large telecommunications services firms are having in generating profits growth. Expectations were lowered because of the projected costs of telecommunications expansion in Latin America and the costs of high-speed Internet access upgrades.
