Why Did He Buy New York? Hey, Wasserstein Loves Deals

Article Abstract:

Investment banker Bruce Wasserstein's motivations for buying New York Magazine are still not clear. He is offering the explanation that he was more interested in the challenge of outbiding others who were interested in the same acquisition than in taking over an established icon of the New York City publishing world to serve his social, political and financial interests. He knows that correcting the magazine's financial problems will be an interesting endeavor for him.
