Big leap for the big three

Article Abstract:

IBM, Hewlett-Packard Co., and Compaq Computer Corp. have had difficulties marketing their computers to consumers because the companies were organized according to the needs of corporate customers. Individual consumers desire the latest internet and multi-media technologies combined with competitive pricing and user-friendliness. This has pushed the three companies to reorganize their production, marketing, and support to be able to handle the fast changes within the consumer market.

An unlikely prophet

Article Abstract:

Larry Ellison, founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Oracle, criticized Microsoft for its anti-competitive business practices at a gathering of more than 1000 Australian and Asian business executives in Hong Kong. Before Christmas, he participated in 1998-99 Sydney to Hobart race in his yacht Sayonara. Ellison and crew were five hours ahead of the record when they were becalmed for six hours just off Tasman Island.
