Industry analysts proedict that online firms will begin charging users for accessing content and services that had previously been free of charge. Web-based companies, such as Santa Clara, Calif.-based Yahoo! Inc., San Francisco, Calif.-based Salon. com, Chicago, Ill.-based Britannica.com Inc. and Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft Corp., are losing online advertising revenues.
