HONG KONG: CENTRAL PEDESTRIAN ZONE IN 2002

Article Abstract:

The Transport Department said the proposed pedestrian zone in several streets in Central would go into effect in 2002. The department is planning to set up pedestrian zones in 8 busy and small streets in Central. There are two options available. The first option will ban traffic from entering Queen's Road Central, Chiu Lung Street, and Theatre Lane all day. Streets like Wo On Lane, Lan Kwai Fong, D'Aguilar Street, Peel Street, Elgin Street will be shut down for traffic only certain time of the day. The second option will allow traffic in Queen's Road Central and the Pottinger Street. The proposed plan will be opened for public consultation in the next six months to a year.

HONG KONG: HKMA PLANS CENTRAL CREDIT REGISTER

Article Abstract:

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority expects to set up a central register to collect credit information from banks in mid-2000. The authority is conducting a survey with banks on loan exposure to China. It may hold talks with some individual banks which have great exposure.
