FCC suspends deadline for AT&T cable sale

Article Abstract:

AT and T Corp has received a reprieve after a court ruling rescinded regulations barring a cable company from having more than 30% share in the US market. The ruling effectively stopped regulatory requirements that would have forced the company to sell cable assets by May 19, 2001. In addition, the Federal Communications Commission suspended the deadline pending further review.

Opportunity of a Lifetime; CEO Carole Black determined to make cable network a strong brand name for women

Article Abstract:

Lifetime Cable Network has appointed Carole Black to replace ousted Doug McCormick. The selection of Black is expected to revitalize programming and marketing for the women-identified network. Lifetime ranked as the eighth leading cable network with revenues of $468 million in 1998, increasing 16% from 1997, and a subscriber base of 73.7 million cable and satellite households.
