Can society save dolphins ... and still savor tuna fish?

Article Abstract:

A deliberate and successful effort has been made to prevent dolphin mortality during tuna fishing. Dolphins are often trapped in nets during tuna fishing and die. Various steps such as regulation of net sizes, suitable training of ship captains, and examination of fishing programs by outsiders have been carried out. Legislation has also been passed which has significantly reduced the Eastern Tropical Pacific's dolphin mortality rate. The legislation should, however, be made internationally mandatory to ensure total success.

Can coastal areas stand more growth and still maintain their ecosystems?

Article Abstract:

Coastal development may be a benefit to speculators, yet a threat to the maintenance of the coastal ecosystems. Among the issues are, the role of regulatory agencies in environmental control, the kinds of development and their effects on erosion, the alternative uses of land, and the tradeoff involved in the pursuit of coastal development in terms of both cost and time.
