Canada, U.S. strike deal on spy satellite

A Canadian-U.S. security agreement will allow work to proceed on Dulles, Va.-based Orbital Sciences Corp.'s $305 million Canadian Radarsat-2 spy satellite. The pact was signed by U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Canadian Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy.

Canada-U.S. military access talks bog down

Canada and the United States are working on the final details of a defense agreement that allows Canada access to U.S. military technology. The Canadian government is under pressure to change its trade regulations to maintain billions of dollars in trade in the defense sector.

Article Abstract:

Canada is facing a new obstacle in the debt-cancellation deal for the world's poorest countries by vigorously resisting a British plan to inflate the value of the International Monetary Fund's vast gold reserves. Canada can be a significant loser if the IMF takes a move to recalculate the value of its gold reserves at prevailing market prices that destabilizes the market.
