Major developments affect the national accounts of J.C. Penney, H & R Block and Lucent

Temerlin McClain resigned from the J.C. Penney account. Temerlin worked on the St. John's Bay brand, business worth about $10 mil. H and R Block Inc. is considering 3 companies for its $100 mil account: DDB Chicago; Campbell Mithun Esty, Minneapolis; and Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston. Lucent Technologies Inc. chose FCB Worldwide for its Enterprise Networks Group account, a $50 mil contract. The $5 mil Weave Innovations Inc. went to Hunt Adkins, Minneapolis, part of the Syndicate.

Conde Naste Publications will launch Lucky magazine, for the young female shopper. In a campaign by McCann-Erickson, the character Mr. Lucky will tout At Home's Excite Web site. British American Tobacco's Brown & Williamson Tobacco has hired Bates USA to breathe new life into its Lucky Strike brand of cigarettes. General Mills is adding new marshmallow shapes to it's Lucky Charms Cereal.

The Burger King Corp. account up for review. The current shop, Lowe Lintas and Partners will participate with 3 other as yet unannounced names. BK outlets with comp results available showed a 0.4% drop over the last 12 months. The account is worth and estimated $400 million per year.
