Saskatchewan nurses back on job

Article Abstract:

Protesting nurses in Saskatchewan have returned to work on Apr 18, 1999, after staging a 10-day illegal strike. The union and the provincial government have reached an agreement in which the nurses will get a 13.7% increase in wages and benefits over the next three years. The strike has crippled Saskatkchewan's health-care delivery system and strained the relationship between government and organized labor.

Striking Saskatchewan nurses defy court

Article Abstract:

Around 3,000 nurses staged a protest rally at the Performing Arts Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, on Apr 12, 1999. The nurses defied a court injunction and a back-to-work legislation even as the Saskatchewan government imposed a 6% wage increase over the next three years. The nurses, which were seeking a 22% increase, face fines of C$2,000 per day and C$400 a day thereafter, individually.
